Thanks to its dramatic 32-31 win over Ohio State on Saturday night, Oregon moved up to No. 2 in the new Associated Press Top 25 poll.

The Ducks were unable to overtake Texas for the top spot after the Longhorns dominated with a 34-3 victory over Oklahoma in the latest edition of the Red River Rivalry. The first loss sent OSU down to No. 4 in the rankings.

All eyes were on Eugene, Oregon in prime time and the battle between the top five teams did not disappoint. The lead never grew to more than eight points and the game went down to the final seconds.

Atticus Sappington's 19-yard field goal put Oregon ahead by a point with 1:47 left in the fourth quarter, which was more than enough for Ohio State's potent offense to at least get in position for a go-ahead field goal bring.

However, self-inflicted wounds thwarted the Buckeyes' comeback.

Wide receiver Jeremiah Smith was flagged for offensive pass interference, which moved OSU from Oregon's 28-yard line to the 43-yard line. Ohio State's players also seemed unaware that the clock would begin running after the referees resumed play, providing valuable time to drain. The loss of those seconds proved costly, as quarterback Will Howard was unable to scramble downfield on a 12-yard scramble as time expired.

I could have come down earlier and given us a chance with a longer shot. We have to go back and see how we can hold on to it and make sure it doesn't happen again.

There was no such drama when Texas and Oklahoma went to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. This was ensured by a 21-point win by the Longhorns in the second quarter.

The Sooners were up 3-0 after the first frame. Some fans even wondered if Arch Manning would see the field after Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers threw an interception on the first drive and got off to a slow start overall.

But a seven-yard touchdown pass from Ewers to tight end Gunnar Helm capped a 10-play, 75-yard drive to give the Longhorns their first points, and they never looked back from there.

Ewers completed 20 of 29 yards, a touchdown and an interception, while running back Quintrevion Wisner had 118 yards and a score on the ground. The Texas defense also held OU to just 239 yards rushing.

Sooners head coach Brent Venables appears to be out of answers. Trading Jackson Arnold for Michael Hawkins Jr. did little to change things.
