49ers injury news: Jordan Mason and Malik Mustapha avoid bad news

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an injury update in a conference call Friday afternoon. There were no significant injuries, but the Niners may be eyeing another kicker while they await Matthew Wright's MRI scan.

Shanahan said Wright's shoulder was dislocated: “Came out briefly. We just need more information.” Wright has a chance to play against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7, but Shanahan said, “Now we have to look for someone else” if Wright can't attend.

Safety Malik Mustapha avoided the high ankle sprain that has sidelined athletes for several weeks. He has a mild ankle sprain and is sick every day.

Running back Jordan Mason has an AC sprain in his left shoulder and is day-to-day. This is good news for the Niners.

Shanahan had no update on Christian McCaffrey’s schedule: “We continue to improve. But we won't open it this week.” The daily questions about the reigning offensive player of the year seem to bother him.

The practice window opens for rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he will practice on Monday.

Here's Shanahan when asked if Pearsall could play against the Chiefs: “Most likely there would be a longer ramp-up period. We're not going to rush it or anything. When he's ready, he's ready. If not, we have a few weeks.”

Defensive tackle Jordan Elliott should return to practice after being sidelined with a knee injury, while cornerback Charavrius Ward continues to battle his knee injury.
