The Dallas Mavericks announced Wednesday that superstar Luka Dončić suffered a bruised left calf and will be reevaluated in a week.

Injury issues have been a part of Dončić's history in the 2023–24 season, particularly during the team's appearance in the NBA Finals.

He had a possible Game 3 call-up and was able to close out the series, which the Celtics eventually won in five games. However, Dončić was fantastic, averaging 29.2 points, 8.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists over the five games.

He was largely healthy last season, appearing in 70 total games and averaging nearly a triple-double on the year (33.9 PPG, 9.8 APG, 9.2 RPG). There is no doubt that Dončić has developed into one of the truly elite talents in the sport.

Equally promising, his partnership with Kyrie Irving is off to a good start, giving Dallas hope of its first title since Dirk Nowitzki shocked the superteam Miami Heat in the 2010-11 season.

That means the Mavericks are a far less dangerous team with Dončić out. If this current injury costs him time, look for players like Spencer Dinwiddie, Dante Exum and Jaden Hardy to see an increase in playing time.
