Thousands of Bank of America customers were locked out of their accounts

Thousands of Bank of America customers took to social media Wednesday to report an online error that either prevented them from accessing their accounts or showed them a zero balance.

The problem appears to be nationwide. According to some reports, more than 18,000 customers have been affected by the glitch so far. Customers took to social media site X to post about their experiences. Some complained that Bank of America had not yet alerted them to the problem.

According to Downdetector, customers have been reporting the issue since 9 a.m. Pacific Time. Reports come from several major cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas, Chicago, New York and Boston. Customers on the site also reported problems accessing their accounts online, on mobile devices and, in some cases, at ATMs.

Customers reported on social media that they had trouble logging into their accounts or received error messages that their accounts could not be accessed and that their current account balance was not available. Some customers saw no balance, just dashes, while others received a message that the balance shown was from the previous day.

A spokesman for Bank of America did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
