Jack Antonoff praises Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX and Chappell Roan

The super producer praised the three artists as people who have built their craft and fan base over time

As a producer Behind a plethora of hits and albums from Taylor Swift and other supernovas, Jack Antonoff knows a thing or two about what it takes to become a pop star. In a new interview with billboardhe refers to the time and cites his colleagues Charli XCX and Sabrina Carpenter as well as this year's breakthrough Chappell Roan as examples. “People call it Brat Summer – it should be called 'artist development summer,'” he joked to the magazine.

“Sabrina (Carpenter), Charli and Chappell Roan – the three of them have this shared experience of artists emerging, and that's where you get gems,” Antonoff said of the scene-stealers of 2024. “And that's the story of being an artist. This is true artist development. And it doesn’t matter where we are in technology or streaming or anything like that – the only way to win is to develop your own language.”

Especially to Carpenter, with whom he produced and co-wrote four songs on their album Short and sweet, “Sabrina has quietly evolved, her albums have gotten bigger, and she has refined her sound and performances,” Antonoff said. It’s not like she just showed up – it was a decade of building up to it.”

Antonoff was also active, playing in rock bands since his school days in the late 1990s, including the trio “Fun,” whose hit “We Are Young” heralded his time in the spotlight. He has won producer of the year and non-classical awards at the last three Grammys – a fourth win in 2025 (since his credits include Swift). Looking ahead, Antonoff has said that he will be collaborating with Del Rey again for her upcoming album lasso and raises funds to open studios in LGBTQ+ youth centers.
