Fox Nation's Black Saturday, starring Trey Yingst, takes viewers into the horrific events of October 7th

Chief Foreign Correspondent for Fox News Trey Yingst's new book, available now, offers a compelling, practical account of the devastating October 7 terrorist attack on Israel.

A three-part documentary of the same name based on Yingst's book is now streaming on Fox Nation, with an abridged version airing Sunday nights at 10 p.m. ET on Fox News Channel.

Yingst began writing “Black Saturday: An Unfiltered Account of the October 7 Attack on Israel and the War in Gaza” immediately after the horrific Hamas attack. At the same time, he also worked to provide Fox News viewers with the latest information from southern Israel and Gaza.

Yingst told Fox News Digital that he thought the book was unique because it was written locally by a correspondent who “lived this story in real time.”

“'Black Saturday' is the gold standard in storytelling when it comes to the events of October 7 in southern Israel and the war that followed,” Yingst said from Tel Aviv.

“A massacre of Israel's civilian population occurred in the early hours of October 7 as Hamas militants crossed the border from the Gaza Strip into communities along the Gaza Strip in southern Israel, killing soldiers and civilians alike and abducting more than 240 people Hostages back to Gaza,” he continued. “'Black Saturday' speaks about our experiences and the response of the Fox News team in Jerusalem to this attack.”

Yingst and his team were reporting from the Gaza border area when the attack unfolded.

“'Black Saturday' tells that story and then the stories of the soldiers, the police and the civilians in southern Israel who tried to make sense of what was happening and then take the fight back to Hamas in Gaza. “the stories of Palestinian civilians who were directly affected by this conflict and continue to be affected today,” he said.

Yingst has extensive sources within the Israeli military and within Hamas leadership. He also speaks regularly with Palestinian civilians in Gaza and with Israeli civilians awaiting the return of their loved ones after being taken hostage.

“This book really captures all of those aspects. It's a book about Israelis. It's a book about Palestinians. It’s a book about October 7th and the war that followed, and it’s a book about people,” Yingst said.

He describes the horrific ordeal at the beginning of the book and shows readers the risks reporters take to bring important information to the world.

“The soldiers we were with got lost and drove through uncleared areas where Hamas had routinely operated in the previous weeks, firing RPGs, anti-tank missiles and small arms fire at Israeli soldiers, leaving us with no way out. We were stuck in this moment, and when I open this book Black Saturday, I talk about this moment,” he said.

“I really thought that might be it,” Yingst continued. “This could be the moment I die.”

For the project, Yingst interviewed a number of people from different perspectives, including Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, senior IDF soldiers, Hamas official Dr. Basem Naim and the Gaza journalist Nael Ghaboun.
