Aaron Pierre plays John Stewart in HBO's DC series

Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) was tapped to play in it lanterns, HBO's high-profile series based on the Green Lantern DC comic. He is set to star opposite Hal Jordan as John Stewart, a role Kyle Chandler has already negotiated for and is expected to complete.

Pierre landed the John Stewart role after an extensive search. As Deadline reported two weeks ago, he emerged as the leading candidate alongside Stephen James in the final stages of the trial.

The series of Ozarkis Chris Mundy, GuardianDamon Lindelof and comic book writer Tom King follow new recruit John Stewart (Pierre) and Lantern legend Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic police officers who are drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery while investigating a murder in the American heartland.

The eight-part episode Lanterns is produced by HBO in association with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios. Mundy, who will serve as showrunner, Lindelof and King are co-writers and executive producers. James Hawes will direct the first two episodes and also serve as executive producer.

Pierre leads the cast of Jeremy Saulniers Rebel Ridgewhich has been the number 1 film on Netflix for three weeks and will next portray the title character Mufasa in Barry Jenkins' animated film Lion King Prequel for Disney. Apple TV+s are currently being filmed The Morning ShowPierre recently played the role of Malcolm X in the NatGeo series Genius: MLK/X. His credits also include Garth Davis' Enemy alongside Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan Clement Virgos Brother and Jenkins' limited series The subway. He is repped by WME, Anonymous Content, Hamilton Hodell and Sloane Offer Weber Dern.
