Utah's first game includes Connor Bedard's Michigan try

It was a fun first night in Utah as Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks became the first opposing team to experience regular season hockey there.

Unfortunately for the Blackhawks, Utah scored two points in its NHL debut, but not without a spark and a major setback. That included a Michigan try from one of the league's young superstars.

Bedard and the Blackhawks were down by a goal almost halfway through the third period and it was all about tying the game. With three defenders covering the front of the net and blocking Bedard, he tried Michigan behind the net and nearly tied the game.

Ultimately, Utah was able to hold off the Blackhawks and Bedard despite two points from the talented young center.

Bedard's quick thinking nearly gave him a goal and third point on opening night. He flew out there looking like the Blackhawks' best player. That's likely to be the case most nights this season as he's already establishing himself as one of the league's top talents.

The transition from year one to year two is a big one and Bedard is starting off on the right foot. His confidence and ability to almost do this despite trailing in the third period of the opening game of the season just shows the mentality he entered the season with.

I don't expect this to be Bedard's last shot at Michigan this season or in his career. Defenders are good at blocking passing lanes, and goalkeepers usually don't expect a player behind the net to score in this way.

Sometimes superstars need to test the team, and that's exactly what Bedard tried to do. It won't be the last time he does this or tries out at Michigan either.
