The DCU officially casts its own Hal Jordan 13 years after Ryan Reynolds' Green Lantern

The main actors for Lanternsthe upcoming DC Studios series based on Green Lantern It's officially announced that it's in the works at HBO. After the revelation that Aaron Pierre (Rebel Ridge) would play John Stewart, It was confirmed that his co-star will be Kyle Chandler (Friday Night Lights).




HBO announced that Chandler has officially been nominated for the role of Hal Jordan in Lanterns. It was recently reported that Chandler was in talks to take on the role of DCU's Hal Jordan, but his casting has not been confirmed at this time. This would make Chandler the second actor to play a live-action Hal Jordan in an official DC production, following Ryan Reynolds, who played the role in a 2011 film. No other casting announcements have been made other than the series' two main leads, and while it's always possible that other characters from the DCU could show up with crossover cameos, none have been confirmed yet.

The role of Hal Jordan was almost played by Thanos actor Josh Brolin. After Brolin reportedly turned down the role, the actor recently told ComicBook.com that talks “didn't work out.” However, upon hearing the then-unconfirmed rumors that Chandler had been offered the role, Brolin offered his support for the casting. Brolin also hinted that he might switch to Chandler later in the DCU.

“You know what? “Green Lantern didn’t work out, but that’s okay,” Brolin said. “It works out. Who will it be, Kyle Chandler? I love him as an actor, I think he's really wonderful. And you know, we’ll see what’s next, man.”

The plot of Lanterns has been revealed

The official logline for Lanterns states: “The series follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic police officers who are drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery while investigating a murder in the American heartland.”

The series is being developed by HBO in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The script is written by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof and Tom King, while James Hawes directs the first three episodes. All four will serve as executive producers.

Lanterns does not yet have a set release date.
