The Mets star barked at Phillies after hitting the home run

UPDATE: The Mets' Brandon Nimmo and the Phillies' JT Realmuto explained to reporters their seventh-inning exchange after Philadelphia's 7-6 win.

Brandon Nimmo's seventh-inning home run against the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 2 of the NL Division Series brought with it some additional words for his opponents.

The New York Mets outfielder's 390-foot home run off a 96-mph sinker from Phillies reliever Orion Kerkerking gave the Mets a 4-3 lead after taking a 3-0 lead a half-inning earlier on Sunday had gambled away.

Nimmo, who usually keeps his head down and runs without making a fuss, said something toward the Phillies and catcher JT Realmuto as he rounded third base and headed into the dugout. It appeared as if Realmuto returned fire with some words of his own, although it was unclear what caused the exchange or what was said.

“After his first playoff home run, he chatted with JT Realmuto on the way to the plate,” play-by-play broadcaster Adam Amin said.

“He looked like he was yapping toward the Phillies dugout — like his eyes weren't on JT, but rather on the first base dugout,” analyst AJ Pierzynski said.

“I think I heard him say something about Sanchez,” analyst Adam Wainwright said. “I wonder if someone like (Cristopher) Sanchez was over there chirping.”

Sánchez, the Phillies' starter, pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs – all on Mark Vientos' home run – on five hits and a walk. He struck out five.
