Preseason game preview: New York Knicks vs. Washington Wizards, October 9, 2024

The New York Knicks will host the Washington Wizards in a preseason game tonight, October 9, 2024, at Madison Square Garden. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on MSG and NBA League Pass.

This game will be the second preseason contest for both teams as they refine their rosters ahead of the regular season. The Knicks are coming off a 111-109 comeback win against the Charlotte Hornets. Newcomer Karl-Anthony Towns played well and contributed 10 points and four rebounds in 15 minutes. Miles “Deuce” McBride led our heroes with 22 points off the bench; Landry Shamet made a strong case for his roster spot by shooting 8 of 18 from the field and 4 of 9 from long range; and freshman Tyler Kolek played confidently in his 14 minutes, scoring 11 points while leading the second unit.

Elsewhere, the Wizards lost to the Toronto Raptors in their preseason opener, with rookie Alex Sarr, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, contributing 15 points.

The Wizards are expected to be in full tank mode this season. Their focus will continue to be on developing young talents such as Sarr and Bilal Coulibaly. Veterans like Kyle Kuzma, Malcolm Brogdon (injured again) and Jonas Valančiūnas could be sent away to amass even more future assets while new head coach Brian Keefe completes his first full season. The Zards are positioning themselves for a high draft pick in 2025 and are anticipating a brighter future.

Tonight is our first opportunity to see Towns and Mikal Bridges play for New York at Madison Square Garden. Should be one hell of a party. I hope you have tickets.
