The Penguins fail in the opening game, stupid mistakes fuel the Rangers' victory

Luckily for the Pittsburgh Penguins, there are still 81 games left. However, they achieved little with the first of 82 goals, failing to capitalize on a few early scoring opportunities before being caught up in errors, soft goals and silly errors. The New York Rangers defeated the Penguins 6-0 on Wednesday night at PPG Paints Arena.

The Boos celebrated, even if there was little eating, although the Penguins did allow Pittsburgh native Vincent Trocheck to score a shorthanded goal at 11:35 of the third period, which was the icing on the cake, followed by Trocheck's second goal at 4:59 p.m.

The energy and opportunity were there for several new Penguins, but New York got its first break of the season when fourth-line center Sam Carrick (1) perfectly hit defenseman Jacob Trouba's wrist shot over the Penguins goalie's extended ball Tristan Jarry made the save at 2:24 of the first period.
