Video: Tropicana Field's roof ripped off by Hurricane Milton

Tropicana Field was unable to escape the force of Hurricane Milton.

In a video released on Wednesday evening, parts of the stadium roof could be seen blowing in the wind.

Tropicana Field is home to the Tampa Bay Rays and served as a base for thousands of emergency responders who camped out before Hurricane Milton.

According to the city, no one was injured when the stadium's roof tore off. Officials are asking people to avoid the area.

A spokesperson for Tropicana Field confirmed in a statement to FOX 13 News that “no first responders were stationed at the Trop and the essential personnel who were there are all reported and safe.”

FOX 13 also confirmed that 13 “essential” team members were at Tropicana Field when the roof fell off the building, and that the organization did not allow the field to be used due to the Rays' reservations about the building's resilience to Hurricane Milton Shelter for people during the storm.

Hurricane Milton hit Siesta Key on Wednesday evening as a Category 3 hurricane.
