Influencer Jack Doherty crashes a 0,000 McLaren while driving a livestream

Internet personality Jack Doherty crashed his $200,000 McLaren during a livestream this weekend after appearing to look at his phone while driving in the rain.

Doherty, 20, a YouTuber with nearly 15 million subscribers, is known online for his controversial prank videos and flaunting his wealth. He streamed the crash on Kick, where his channel was suspended following the incident.

A clip of the stream circulating online appeared to show Doherty speeding on a wet motorway while looking at the phone in his hand before shouting “No, no, no!” When he lost control of his car and crashed into a guardrail.

Doherty also shared clips of the aftermath, including a video of him screaming for help in the vehicle immediately after the crash. In the video, he asked one of his rescuers to hold the camera for him while a group of bystanders dragged him out the window.

Viewers were quick to criticize the streamer for appearing to be more worried about his totaled McLaren than his cameraman in the passenger seat, who appeared to still be in the car, clutching his arm and bleeding from his head.

Doherty also shared a clip of the two sitting in a hospital room where his cameraman was getting stitches on his head. However, some online users noted that he did not re-upload all the footage of his behavior that led to the crash.

Representatives for Doherty did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Another clip shared online showed Doherty lamenting his wrecked car while handing the camera to his still-bleeding cameraman and telling him: “Michael, here. Michael, do you have your film on your cell phone too?”

Shortly after Saturday's accident went viral, Doherty's Kick account disappeared. A spokesperson for the streaming service said Kick “does not tolerate illegal activity, which is why we took quick action to ban this creator from the platform.”

The stream's content appears to have violated several of Kick's community guidelines, including the instruction to “prioritize your safety and the safety of those around you by avoiding dangerous behavior.”

“Safety first: Prioritize the safety of yourself, your audience, the public and everyone else involved,” the guidelines continue. “If someone is in danger or needs assistance, turn your camera away and contact local emergency services immediately.”

The accident with his McLaren was the latest incident in which Doherty crashed a vehicle on camera.

In March, the content creator shared a video in which he accidentally flipped his new Can-Am SUV “30 seconds after receiving it.” He later posted a photo of his injured arm and asked his followers if he should go to the hospital.

In November, Doherty faced similar criticism for crashing a golf cart he was driving with his girlfriend, causing the cart to spin in her direction. In a video he posted on YouTube, he could be seen lifting the golf cart away from her and apologizing.

“I literally thought I just broke your neck. I tried to hold it,” Doherty says in the video. “But the golf cart is fine.”

As for the McLaren, according to a YouTube video uploaded in June last year, Doherty bought the now-worth-it vehicle for more than $200,000 last year – less than a month after he also bought a Lamborghini and a Tesla .

As Doherty drove his brand new convertible for the first time, he joked in the video that he was “going to crash this car, mark my words.”
