Honda is recalling 1.7 million CRVs and HRVs with steering problems

Honda is recalling 1.7 million CRVs and HRVs with steering problems

Honda and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) are issuing a recall affecting nearly 1.7 million cars and SUVs in the United States because a steering problem could increase the risk of a crash.

The recall affects 1,693,199 2022 to 2025 Honda vehicles. This includes certain types of the following models:

  • Honda Civic
  • Honda Civic Type R
  • Honda CR-V
  • Honda HR-V
  • Acura Integra
  • Acura Integra Type S

According to the NHTSA report, the recall is due to an improperly manufactured steering gear worm gear that caused excessive internal friction in the vehicles. This friction can cause a “sticky feeling” when turning the steering wheel.

“Increased worm-to-worm wheel friction can increase steering effort and difficulty, increasing the risk of accident or injury,” the NHTSA report states.

Honda first received complaints about this issue in September 2021. NHTSA opened its preliminary investigation in March 2023.

Honda said it has received 10,328 warranty claims since September 2021.
