Flooding in Milton prompts Bunnell to issue a water emergency alert

At 5 a.m., Hurricane Milton was moving away from Florida's east coast but was still inundating parts of the state with hurricane-force winds and rain.

The storm had maximum sustained winds of 85 mph and was moving northeast at 18 mph. Strong wind gusts and heavy rain were still being felt in Volusia and Flagler counties.

A curfew is in effect until at least 8 a.m. in Volusia and at least 7:30 a.m. in Flagler

7:21 am According to a Facebook post from the city, flooding from Hurricane Milton is straining the City of Bunnell's sewer system, lift stations and wastewater plant. For this reason, the city encourages all residents and businesses to conserve water.

“To support the sewer systems, slow flooding and support wastewater treatment plant operations, WE NEED YOUR HELP,” the city said. “Please conserve water by skipping laundry, limiting showers, not running the dishwasher, and not washing up when necessary. Every drop we can keep out of the sewers helps!!!”

7:08 am According to a Facebook post from the Volusia Sheriff's Office, flood rescue teams responded to calls in South Daytona this morning. No further details were disclosed.

The sheriff's office urged people to stay off the roads as conditions are dangerous throughout Volusia County.

The sheriff's office also released a video of Sheriff Mike Chitwood touring the county early Thursday morning.

“There were many fallen tree branches throughout Volusia, it was still raining and there was water on many roads,” the sheriff’s office said. “Please continue to stay put. Remember that the curfew remains in effect until at least 8 a.m. Thursday.”

6:42 am Thousands of customers are without power in Volusia-Flagler.

According to findenergy.com, 50,053 customers were without power in Flagler County as of 6:16 a.m., while 149,825 customers were without power in Volusia County.

Hurricane Milton sends strong winds to the Port Orange neighborhood

The Skylake neighborhood of Port Orange experienced high winds and rain from Hurricane Milton Thursday morning

6 a.m Flooding and strong winds are still a concern in East Central Florida, and wind gusts of 50 to 70 mph or more are still being felt. In Volusia County, a flash flood warning is in effect until 6 a.m., along with a hurricane warning and flood warning until 8 p.m. A storm surge warning is in effect in coastal areas.

A hurricane warning remains in effect for Flagler County. A flash flood warning is in effect until 8 a.m. and a flood warning is in effect until this evening. A storm surge warning remains in effect for coastal areas.
