New York Jets Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett was relieved of his duties as game manager a few days after owner Woody Johnson fired head coach Robert Saleh.

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich announced Thursday that passing game coordinator Todd Downing will take over running games in his second season with the team, while Hackett will remain offensive coordinator.

“It's more of a byproduct of a different way of looking at things – I'm not saying it's a better or worse way of looking at things at all. Just a different way of looking at things, a new approach.”

During his introductory press conference, Ulbrich said this quarterback Aaron Rodgers would be involved in decisions about the crime. When asked Thursday about Rodgers' reaction to Hackett's blast, Ulbrich said he was “supportive.”

“It was of course – not necessarily a shock, but we all know the relationship he has with Nathaniel and they are very, very good friends. They have a long history together. He understood the decision and supported it. “The decision, and I'm lucky for it.

JETS' AARON RODGERS dismisses rumors that he played a role in Robert Saleh's firing as 'patently false'

Hackett was brought in during the Jets' pursuit of Rodgers, but the pairing didn't pan out as hoped. The Jets' offense has struggled to find consistency this season, limited to just four field goals and two touchdowns in consecutive losses.

“We have to start doing everything with a sense of urgency, a heightened sense of urgency, and then it just becomes who you are — it becomes part of your DNA,” Ulbrich said.

He added that he will retain his title as defensive coordinator and continue to handle playmaking duties for the defense.

All eyes will be on Ulbrich and Downing when the Jets host the event Buffalo Bills on Monday night in a game that has serious implications for the AFC East standings.
