David Spade once agreed to pay for Adam Sandler's dinner – only the next day did he realize it cost ,000

To surprise Sandler, Spade was more generous than planned.

David Spade may be one of America's most famous comedians, but he once got overconfident and lost $9,000. During his appearance on “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon,” the actor admitted that he once tried to prank Adam Sandler and ended up treating himself to his prize at a restaurant. While it would be fine to help a friend, in this case the Grown Ups star had no idea what Spade was doing.

Joking has gone too far

Both Spade and Sandler have a long history, having worked together on Saturday Night Live in the '90s. They've also starred in more than half a dozen films together, so you'd think they'd help each other out and do each other favors.

On the show, Spade confirmed that Sandler always invites him to dinner because he has a wallet that can be described as “10 feet tall.” So he wanted to return the favor and the opportunity presented itself when Spade walked into a “fancy restaurant” and found that Sandler was there too. When speaking to Fallon, Spade said he acted indifferent and downplayed it as “no big deal.”

He later discovered that Sandler was entertaining 15 guests at a birthday party in the back room. Spade decided to crash the party because of a few “thirst bits,” which included the role of waiter. He also said that everyone at the party was amused by his performance.

On the way out of the restaurant, Spade planned one last joke, picking up Sandler's check as a surprise. He shared that the staff was shocked and asked, “Sir, his…whole thing?”

“Yes. I'm on TV sometimes. What are you worried about?” Spade replied. The transaction was completed and the man handed Spade the receipt.

Spade added that he received a call the next day from identity protection representatives who suspected his card had been stolen. They told him that someone had used his card to pay for a $9,000 dinner. However, he confirmed that he had completed the transaction and that his card was safe. Spade jokingly claimed that the authorities were saying, “It couldn't have been you, you're not that generous.”

While this was a case of accidental generosity, Spade was also intentionally generous. In 2022, Spade donated money to a fundraiser for a Burger King employee. After Kevin Ford, who worked at the fast food chain for 27 years, was disappointed with a “less than modest” goodie bag from the company, his daughter started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for his retirement.

Donors included the comedian and actor, who donated $5,000 to the campaign. Spade even left a direct message for Ford encouraging him to keep up the good work. He even made a lighthearted comment saying that Ford might need to have 30 years of perfect attendance before he could take a day off, TMZ reported.
