49ers Crucial Catch & Latino Heritage Month Game Day Celebration

49ers Crucial Catch & Latino Heritage Month Game Day Celebration

During the San Francisco 49ers' Week 4 game against the New England Patriots, the team will honor the NFL's Crucial Catch initiative and raise awareness about cancer detection and risk reduction.

The league, the NFL Players Association and the American Cancer Society are committed to providing individuals with the tools they need to better understand early detection and ways to reduce their risk of cancer. Every year, every NFL team raises awareness with Crucial Catch elements on the field and in the stadium during a game. Crucial Catch games also provide a special opportunity to honor cancer survivors and those currently battling cancer.

Here's what to look for during the 49ers Latino Heritage Month celebration and the Crucial Catch game presented by Dignity Health:

Personal connection

San Francisco 49ers cornerback Darrell Luter Jr. understands the effects of cancer all too well. His family has endured the hardships that come with a cancer diagnosis and the loss of a loved one due to the battle with cancer.

Luter Jr. opened up about his relationship with his grandmother, Lila Belle, and her battle with breast cancer. He discussed the ways she had taught him resilience and positivity.

“I wish she had had the opportunity to watch me play football… In the meantime, I know she is looking down on us. So I try everything in my power to make her happy, to make her proud and to give her a good sign.” Smile on her face up in the sky.

Arrivals

At a 49ers art therapy community outreach event, players teamed up with cancer fighters to paint on canvases what strength means to them. The artwork created on the canvases is transferred to denim jackets generously donated by Levi's®. The players and Cancer Warriors will proudly don their personalized jackets in their arrival outfits for the Crucial Catch contest in Week 4 against the Patriots.
