Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba takes responsibility for dropped pass in Week 5 loss

The Seattle Seahawks suffered a shocking 29-20 loss to the New York Giants in Week 5 on Sunday. Seattle's offense had the ball 23-20 with less than two minutes left. The loss was confirmed when the Giants blocked a game-winning 47-yard field goal attempt by Jason Myers and returned it for a touchdown.

Before the field goal that might have sent the game into overtime, the Seahawks faced a 3rd-and-4 from the Giants' 28-yard line. Had quarterback Geno Smith and the offense converted, Seattle could have continued its potential winning streak. However, second-year receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba dropped Smith's third pass, resulting in a blocked field goal on the ensuing down.

Smith-Njigba, during his post-match press briefing with the media, took the blame for the dropped pass that led to the unfortunate turn of events.

“Just not executed well,” said a disappointed-looking Smith-Njigba. “We stopped ourselves today.”

Smith-Njigba recorded just four receptions on seven targets for 31 yards and his first receiving touchdown of the season. Overall, the second-year wideout has recorded 29 catches for 289 yards in five contests. Smith-Njigba will get a quick opportunity to perform well in a crucial NFC West showdown against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday Night Football later this week.
