I watched Terrifier 2 for the first time and I have to talk about the part of the horror movie that doesn't make sense

2024 seems to be the year that Art The Clown really hits the mainstream. horror 3 is receiving solid reviews ahead of its theatrical release, and you can't enter Spirit Halloween without encountering a life-sized animatronic of the slasher clown. None of this would have been possible without the acclaimed previous films, and as someone who needed to catch up, I decided to check it out Horror 2. Afterwards, I was shocked to see that the film was received as well as it was thanks to a part that made no sense at all.

Fair warning to those who haven't seen it: I'll go into this in terms of spoilers Horror 2. I recommend that those who haven't seen it watch it now if you have a Prime Video subscription, especially because I want to know if I'm the only one who has a big problem with Little Pale Girl, this can be seen throughout the horror film.

“The Little Pale Girl” ruined the movie for me

It doesn't take long before the little pale girl comes in Horror 2as viewers are introduced to her shortly after Art The Clown's resurrection. The performance of Amelie McLain herself is completely fine, so let me start by saying that none of what I am about to discuss has the slightest thing to do with her. I'm more annoyed with the character himself and how consistently such an acclaimed horror film continually ignores the rules it sets for this character.

Of course, I also understand why people like Eric Eisenberg from CinemaBlend and many others gave Horror 2 positive reviews. Ultimately, it's one of the most bloodthirsty slasher films out there, and it succeeds at that very well. Well, I think a lot of people overlook Little Pale Girl, although I just couldn't and didn't have to complain about why she ruined the movie for me.

The film introduces the little pale girl and then tells us nothing about her

Little Pale Girl's first appearance in Horror 2 feels significant and it's an incredibly well-crafted scene. Art is washing his clown suit at a laundromat when she shows up, and the two continue to laugh and play cake-making while he waits for his clothes to be cleaned. A man who was sleeping at the entrance wakes up and we see the scene from his perspective and we see a naked Art playing cake with the air.

I thought this scene was brilliant because it proved that the little pale girl in Art's head existed and that she resembled him for some reason. I wondered if she was an extended family member, like a child or even a victim of the family member. There was a deeper story to tell about this little girl and her relationship with art, and I was immediately excited to learn more about her story and story.

Unfortunately, Horror 2 isn't particularly interested in revealing anything about her or incorporating her into the story. There is a scene that suggests she may be the daughter of a circus performer who was mysteriously killed, but she is only briefly touched upon and never mentioned again.

I would even argue that by the end of the film we know less about the character than we thought at the beginning of the adventure. She remains a huge mystery, to the point where she is missing at the end of the film until she retrieves Art's head, and there are no clear answers as to who she is and whether we will ever see her again. It's not the kind of resolution I'd expect from a horror film that barely missed our list of entries with a 90% or higher critic score on Rotten Tomatoes, and it only got more frustrating the more I thought about it thought.

It is initially presented as imaginary, but later becomes real?

Aside from the fact that there is no explanation as to who the little pale girl is, Horror 2 often violates the rules it sets for the character. As I mentioned, the opening scene in which she appears suggests that she is a figment of Art's imagination, as she could only be seen by the killer clown.

Then, later in the film, we get some pretty clear scenes that prove that both siblings, Sienna and Jonathan, can see her too. At first I thought it was possible that the siblings were also among the select few who could see this girl and that she would play a role in the story. Unfortunately, Horror 2 goes back to killing and doesn't really dwell on it anymore.

It was driving me crazy when we got to the end of the movie and it seems that Little Pale Girl has nothing at all to do with the return of Art The Clown. Was she real, imagined, or just a manifestation of evil? It seems no one on the internet knows, and based on what I've read online, she's missing from the wonderfully gory picture at all horror 3. Why am I the only one frustrated about this?

Is “Pale Girl” an homage to nonsensical twists in classic slasher sequels?

As frustrated as I am, I think back to some of the best horror films and the inferior sequels that followed them. For each Hellraiser or Friday the 13ththere is a sequel that introduces a nonsensical twist that doesn't live up to the original premise.

In some ways I think Little Pale Girl is a conscious nod to the twists of classic horror films, particularly with the reveal in which she is absent horror 3. Perhaps that's why the horror community is so forgiving of sequels to franchises it cares about. They are willing to overlook the shortcomings Horror 2 and support it despite the lack of answers surrounding the character.
