Northern Lights shine in NYC and around the Tri-State – NBC New York

Thanks to a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the Sun on Tuesday that reached Earth on Thursday evening, the Northern Lights were visible from across the New York City area.

Although the astronomical phenomenon may not be quite as bright as locations further north, it was visible in Queens as well as New Jersey, Connecticut and Suffolk County on Long Island. In addition, the sky conditions for observation are almost perfect.
