The Kentucky community responds to a gruesome death investigation

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – The investigation into a death in Northern Kentucky continues.

A Robertson County woman is under arrest after Kentucky State Police discovered a dismembered body that witnesses believe is her mother.

Trooper David Jones says Kentucky State Police responded to this home on Brierly Ridge Road Wednesday afternoon after a man who arrived at the property for work made a horrific discovery.

“Two units arrived on scene and discovered the body in the backyard. We obtained a search warrant and called in our SWAT team,” said Trooper Jones.

The witness believed he had found the dismembered body of Trudy Fields, who he had last seen Tuesday with her daughter Torilena May Fields.

Torilena was in the house when police arrived and they had to use tear gas to finally get her out.

Upon entry, the arrest certificate states that body parts were cooked in an oven. The pot still felt warm.

Trooper Jones says it is the type of scene they would never have to deal with and residents of the Mount Olivet area are shocked by the cruelty of the scene.

“It's really unthinkable that it would end like this,” said Mt Olivet resident James McFarland.

The witness also noted that Torilena cast a spell on him and a colleague when they came to work on Tuesday.

“For me, where is the person’s mindset at this point? “Was she really mentally stable enough to know what she was even doing?” McFarland said.

James McFarland says losing such a woman in this way has devastated their small town.

“She’s a sweet old lady. The sweetest woman you can have. Really nice,” he said.

Fields is being held at the Bourbon County Detention Center. She is accused of obstructing government operations, tampering with physical evidence and abusing a corpse.

Her arraignment is scheduled for Monday.
