5 guys from the Dallas Mavericks' thrilling preseason loss to the Utah Jazz

Daniel Gafford's preseason start was slow on Monday night, but he hit the ground running on Thursday night against the Jazz.

Gafford finished the game with 15 points, seven rebounds, one steal and three blocks and was unstoppable in the second half of the game. He gave it his all from both ends and his off-season training program paid off in a big way.

Gafford revealed that he has gained muscle mass over the summer and he looks strong as ever. He can't be stopped by a lot of players on the perimeter when he's chasing rebounds, and he sank it all.

Gafford's ability to create second chances for himself and others is invaluable, and his energy helps galvanize the bench unit like no other. Even in a preseason game, Gafford was constantly screaming for big plays, being physical and holding on as a defensive anchor.

Gafford has set a goal of averaging double-digit rebounds per game this season, and he could be well on his way to achieving that goal if he continues to play well. With Gafford subbing in for Dereck Lively II, there won't be much of a drop-off, and opposing teams will be in trouble if both can maintain this level of dominance on both ends of the court.

Both players can start if needed, and while Gafford will likely begin the season on the bench, he appears ready to pick up right where Lively II leaves off when he comes into the game.
