The Dodgers' Kiké Hernández continues his clutch playoff career in Game 5 of the NLDS

Kiké Hernández once again showed he's ready for October baseball after hitting a 428-foot home run off Padres right-hander Yu Darvish in the second inning of Game 5 of the National League Division Series.

Hernández's solo home run gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead in the win-or-go-home game against San Diego. It was also Hernández's fourteenth home run of his postseason career.

“I think certain players want the big moment, the big stage, the big spotlight. Kike did it over and over again,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told Ken Rosenthal about casting the Fox game.

Hernández's home run is no surprise given his playoff track record. Additionally, his comments before Game 5 reflected his desire to make an impact in the match.

“There is no tomorrow, we have to find a way to win today and only win today,” Hernández said. “I mean, in my opinion, these types of games are the ones we've dreamed of since we were little kids. We didn't come to the NL West; We came to win the World Series.

“To achieve this, we have to do this, or we go home and think about everything in the offseason, and this team comes to spring training thinking about the failures of years past,” Hernández continued. “We're not worried about anything other than winning tonight. And there are more than 26 people in our clubhouse that believe in each other and have the right mindset to go out there tonight and do whatever it takes to win tonight.”

As the game enters the fifth inning, only Hernández has scored. The Dodgers are up 1-0.
