Jurickson Profar says the Dodgers' “lies” motivated the Padres in Game 3

There's a fine line between confidence and cockiness, and Jurickson Profar walks the line.

The San Diego Padres left fielder has fueled the drama with his fan taunts and on-field shenanigans.

However, he doesn't see it that way and added fuel to the fire on Tuesday when he accused the Dodgers of lying.

“I think it motivated us. It motivated us,” he said of the upset in Game 2. “Like all those things — all those lies, I don't know, man. It's a great team over there. I don't think they need all the lying. We just have to play baseball. …Like Fernando's dance. You insult us. You throw things. You do everything. What should he do? Because of you he reacts like that, he dances like that. And they make it seem like no, he's dancing and taunting the fans. Do you think he just goes to the field to dance? Really?”

Profar's opinion of Game 2 doesn't seem to reflect reality, but he'll keep telling himself that as long as the Padres win.

Some of his teammates have put the chaos of Game 2 behind them and declined to comment.

“I don’t think we should waste our energy on this,” said Xander Bogaerts. “Listen, we have something special going on here, and the more we can block out those outside noises, the better it will be for us. I think that's the way we should continue to approach it. …We can’t control what people put out there. We can't control what people think about us. But like I said, we have something really special going on here, and the more positive energy we have… I think we should take that approach.”

Outfielder David Peralta has been on both sides of this rivalry and played a key role for the Padres in this series.

“No matter what the situation is, don’t worry, we’ve got your back,” said Peralta, whose double scored two runs in the second inning. “That's what we do. We did it today. … We’re good – offense, defense, pitching, starting, relievers. That's what it's about. We come and close the teams. The Dodgers have a pretty good lineup and we just shut them down. That's what it's about. It's not just about one person. …We are all in this together, and this is what we do. We have done this all year and will continue to do so. And the best part is that we’re getting better every day.”
