Sam Leavitt is the key to scoring for Arizona State football

TEMPE – Arizona State football benefited from Sam Leavitt's elite improvisation as the Sun Devils beat Utah 6-6 late in the first quarter at Mountain America Stadium on Friday.

The quarterback had three crucial scrambles on the drive, all on third or fourth down with heavy pressure.

He scrambled for an early third-and-5 throw and found Xavier Guillory, who made a hard tackle for a 27-yard gain.

After a false start, ASU brought up a third-and-9, Leavitt scrambled to his right and reached for a first down.

Most impressively, ASU kept its offense on the field from the Utah 35-yard line on fourth down. The pressure came and the quarterback turned left, still looking down, before seeing green grass in front of him and scoring first himself.

Leavitt found his favorite receiver, Jordyn Tyson, for a touchdown on the next play.
