The Ivins community reacts to the second day of the PGA Tour in southern Utah

IVINS, Utah – It was day two at the PGA Tour's Black Desert Championship in Ivins and both those here and those out of town were saying the same thing.

It's the first opportunity in 61 years for Utahns to meet the top pros in men's golf in the Beehive State.

For those from other parts of the country and world, it was an opportunity to experience a sport known for its beautiful locations in Red Rock County.

For Steve Schaffer from Arizona, it was a location for his bachelor party, to which he also brought his father Jeff. But what about the partner he marries next month?

“My fiancé likes to play, but definitely not as much as I do,” Schaffer said. “We can watch golf, play golf and spend time with great friends”

“It's hard to watch golf when you have all the scenery around you,” Jeff Schaffer said.

The scene was fit for an artist and St George artist Tommy Stirland enjoyed the picture-perfect scene with his son Harvey.

“It’s pretty awesome to have a PGA event here in my hometown,” Stirland said. “There is probably nothing else in the world that will look like this with the combination of black rock, red rock and desert.”

Stirland was commissioned to create a painting depicting St. George native Jay Don Blake competing in his 500th PGA Tour event. Blake failed to advance to this weekend's finals, but was finally able to play in his hometown for the first time in his long career.

“He’s a local legend,” Stirland said.

A native of Elmo (pop. 418), Emery County, golf fan Teigen Jewkes never thought he would see a PGA event in person.

“It's just different, like the ball flights and the way they can control the ball. It’s a different experience.”

Bachelor Steve has a message for his fiancé

“I can't wait to marry you next month!” He screamed for the cameras as he marched off to enjoy the golf, the scenery and his bachelorette party.
