Kevin Young's brother has joined coaching staff – Deseret News

To further strengthen his first BYU coaching staff, Kevin Young has added someone he has known since birth.

Young's older brother Justin has joined the program as the Cougars' recruiting director, BYU announced Friday.

“Justin is a welcome addition to our staff,” Kevin Young said in a statement. “He is a creative mind who helps us think outside the box. Justin has a lifetime of experience in the recruiting space and brings invaluable knowledge that will impact our recruiting structure in many ways. He will be a great asset to our program with his holistic thinking as we leverage his network of relationships.”

Justin Young is a veteran of the college basketball recruiting scene, having served as national basketball editor for Rivals and as a contributing editor for Yahoo Sports for two decades.

Most recently, Justin was co-owner and editor-in-chief of HoopsSeen.

“I can’t wait to officially join the BYU men’s basketball coaching staff as recruiting director,” Justin Young said in a social media post. “This is a unique opportunity to work with a world-class staff at a world-class school as we search for world-class athletes and people. I’m really excited to start working!”

As previously reported by the Deseret News, BYU has already created new positions of chief of staff and director of player development, which will be filled by Doug Stewart and Jordan Brady, respectively.

“BYU Basketball has never had a full-time recruiting director, and Justin’s network and time scouting players around the world will give BYU an added advantage it didn’t have before,” Vanquish the Foe’s Robby McCombs wrote.
