TECO plans to restore most power on Thursday

TAMPA, Fla. – Efforts to restore power continue in Tampa Bay as hundreds of thousands of people in the area are still without service.

More headlines about Hurricane Milton

Early Saturday morning, dozens of TECO crews took off from Raymond James Stadium to restore power to Hillsborough County.

This involves contractors working under TECO, like Justen Fisher, since Milton arrived.

“Today we present our game plan,” he said. “We grab all of our supplies when we need additional wires or connectors for transformers.”

Fisher said they have seen a community devastated and will continue to do so.

As they drive around the county, he said they are doing what they can to help, but it's what those who have lost so much are offering that amazes him.

“It's humbling to see a tree come through someone's house and for them to come up to you and offer you food, snacks and water when a tree has come through their house,” he said.

Repairing everyone's power is not a quick process.

According to TECO, the goal on Saturday is to restore power to as many customers as possible and to restore core infrastructure.

Fisher said everyone is doing their best.

“Just be patient,” he said. “Give us time and stay healthy. Stay away from work areas. Let the men and women do their thing and we will get it back up and running as quickly as possible.”

The 1,500 workers have been staying in hotels since Milton's arrival, but now they have mobile sleeping units with which they are working to restore power.
