Michael Taaffe remembers Danny Stutsman's viral Red River shirts

Every decent rivalry includes a bit of good-natured banter. Sometimes it can even go beyond that. Oklahoma won the Red River Rivalry last year against Texas and took the opportunity to lightly flirt with that line.

After a 34-30 win over Texas, Oklahoma linebacker Danny Stutsman has a T-shirt that says “Oklahoma is only afraid of God. Texas fears Oklahoma.”

It's an image that likely misled dozens of Texas players and provided fuel and motivation for this year's Red River Rivalry rematch, scheduled to take place this weekend. But if so, the Longhorns are doing a good job keeping things relatively quiet.

Junior defender Michael Taaffe made a comment about the jerseys ahead of the game this week.

“It’s a new season,” Taaffe said, according to Campbell Choate of TSTV Sports. “We have a whole new team. I don't focus too much on what they did last year, what we did last year. But I remember everything.”

The T-shirts weren't the only trolling Stutsman did about Texas, either. He also had a Horns Down “tattoo” on his body that he flaunted Pat McAfee Show in advance of the game.

Afterwards, Stutsman was asked if it was real and if he still had the tattoo.

“I mean, I kind of made it through. “You know, it could be real or fake,” Stutsman said as he pulled up the right leg of his shorts to show evidence of the anti-Texas symbol that was still there. “But I think you can see it right there.”

McAfee was impressed and said: “It looks pretty real.” Stutsman then added: “It could be a temporary tattoo. I mean, I kind of leave it alone. Maybe in 20 or 25 years we can return to this discussion. But Texas fans want to believe it.”

Be that as it may, this year's Red River Rivalry is set to be particularly exciting. Texas is the top-ranked team in the country and enters the new conference's first year as the SEC's only undefeated team. Oklahoma hopes to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Kickoff for the two teams is scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
