DETROIT – After a disappointing loss to start the season, the Detroit Red Wings will look to pick up their first win of the 2024-25 season when they host the Nashville Predators on Saturday night.

While many people's attention may have been focused on a game directly across from Woodward, the Red Wings got off to a good start in their home opener against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night. However, a lackluster second half and poor play from goalkeeper Ville Husso resulted in a 6-3 defeat.

It was an unfortunate reminder of the mistakes Detroit has made in recent seasons that have caused them to continually miss the playoffs. Obviously it's just one game and the Wings have plenty of time to fix their problems, but they need to show signs of improvement to give Hockeytown optimism for this year's team.

The Predators also started their season on a losing note, losing to the defending Central Division champion Dallas Stars on Thursday night. Despite the slow start, many are looking forward to Nashville this season, despite goalkeeper Juuse Saros starting the season on the injured list. With the additions of Steven Stamkos and Jonathan Marchessault, the Preds have enough firepower to get back into the playoffs.

These teams will also play in Smashville next Saturday.
