Vanderbilt football player injured at Kentucky

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Vanderbilt football defensive lineman Miles Capers was carried off the field on a stretcher with an injury during the second quarter of the Commodores game Saturday night.

A Kentucky offensive lineman blocked Capers on a rushing play, causing him to fall to the ground. The game ended in a 7-7 draw with 10:19 minutes left to play in the second quarter. There was a long break in play while Capers was cared for on the field after the goal.

Capers recorded three tackles in the game before getting injured. He is in his fourth year with the program, but redshirted four games as a freshman in 2021 and then missed the 2022 season due to a torn ACL he suffered in the preseason.

The team gathered around Capers in midfield when he was substituted.

ESPN reported that Capers suffered a blow to the head. He was taken to UK Hospital by ambulance.

Vanderbilt is already shorthanded with Langston Patterson and Zaylin Wood, two other defensive starters, out due to injuries.

Overall, Capers recorded 25 tackles this season, including 4.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He was named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week after a win over Alabama when he forced a fumble on Jalen Milroe.
