Help for Hurricane Milton comes from Miami Hurricanes, Florida Gators Stars NIL deal

Help for Hurricane Milton comes from Miami Hurricanes, Florida Gators Stars NIL deal

The state of Florida was recently hit by hurricanes. First Hurricane Helene devastated one side of the state, now Hurricane Milton is hitting the other side.

Given the great devastation, relief efforts are underway to help everyone in need. College football stars are even getting in on the action with a unique NIL deal to support Hurricane Milton relief.

On-field rivals Miami Hurricanes quarterback Cam Ward and Florida Gators quarterback DJ Lagway are putting their differences aside for a good cause.

They released Leaf trading cards on Thursday priced at $9.99 and will be on sale until October 17th. All proceeds from tickets sold will be donated to the Florida Disaster Fund.

“Leaf has partnered with DJ Lagway to support relief efforts, with 100% of the proceeds from the sale of this card donated to the Florida Disaster Fund. Our condolences go out to everyone affected by the devastation currently unfolding in Florida, and we stand with the community during this challenging time,” reads the description on the page containing the Gators star’s card is sold.

Hurricane Milton made landfall late Wednesday evening and swept through the region until early Thursday morning. More than 3 million people remained without power as 18 inches of rain pounded power in some parts of the state.

This resulted in catastrophic and deadly storm surges that could reach heights of up to 15 feet, according to meteorologists.

Hopefully Ward and Lagway's performances off the field are as good as they are on the field.

The Miami star is one of the favorites for the Heisman Trophy award this season and is helping lead the Hurricanes back to prominence. Currently undefeated and ranked No. 6 in the country, the team's success should lead to even more zero chances for Ward.

He currently has a zero valuation of $2 million. That's good for seventh in all sports and sixth in college football.

A five-star+ recruit, Lagway was the highest-rated quarterback in the 2024 class. His current value is $1.1 million, which is 27th in all of college sports and 18th in college football .

The Florida star is just beginning his career, and if he lives up to expectations, opportunities will abound. He appeared in five games for the team this season, but in his first career start against Samford last month he threw for 456 yards and three touchdowns.
