Will Howard, Ohio State's starting quarterback, has come a long way to becoming a leader for the 2024 Buckeyes.

Howard, a transfer from Kansas State, was named the Buckeyes' starting quarterback by coach Ryan Day after beating out Devin Brown for the job.

Howard spent four seasons at Kansas State and joined the Buckeyes in January for his final collegiate season. He shares an OSU quarterback room with Brown, Julian Sayin, Air Noland and Lincoln Kienholz.

Here's what you should know about Howard:

Will Howard did not have a recruiting offer for Ohio State

Howard apparently wasn't on Ohio State's short list for the 2020 recruiting class.

Howard was the No. 882 prospect in the country and the No. 33 pro quarterback in the class of Downington West High School in Pennsylvania, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.

As a quarterback at Downingtown West High School, Howard threw 48 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. In his junior and senior seasons, he posted a 39 to 10 touchdown-to-interception ratio and averaged at least 180 passing yards per game.

Howard had offers from programs such as Cincinnati, Maryland, Kansas Rutgers and Toledo before committing to Kansas State on June 23, 2019.

In the 2020 class, Ohio State brought in two four-star quarterbacks in CJ Stroud and Jack Miller.

Will Howard has the most touchdown passes in Kansas State history

Howard became a record-setting quarterback in his four seasons at Kansas State.

Howard has the most touchdown passes in Kansas State history with 48, having tied the school single-season record with 24 touchdown passes in 2023, a career-high 2,643 passes and a completion percentage of 61.3 % corresponds.

Howard is one of four Kansas State quarterbacks to score 40 career touchdowns, along with Josh Freeman, Skylar Thompson and Jake Waters.

Howard is fourth in Kansas State history with 458 career completions and fifth in passing yards (5,786), pass attempts (779) and total offense per game (197.3).

Howard also rushed for 921 yards and added 19 rushing touchdowns at Kansas State.

Will Howard led Kansas State to a Big 12 championship

Howard helped Kansas State to a Big 12 championship in 2022.

Howard's 18 touchdowns and 1,633 passing yards in seven games helped the Wildcats to a 10-4 overall record by splitting quarterback duties with former Nebraska signal caller Adrian Martinez.

Howard started in the Big 12 Championship Game against TCU, where he completed 18 of 32 pass attempts for 199 yards and three total touchdowns. The Wildcats defeated the Horned Frogs 31-28 in overtime to win the program's first conference title since 2012. Kansas State ended the season with a Sugar Bowl loss to Alabama.

In Howard's four years with Kansas State, the Wildcats finished with a 28-19 record.

Will Howard is from Pennsylvania

Howard is from Downingtown, Pennsylvania, which is 33 miles west of Philadelphia.

Howard is one of two Pennsylvania natives on Ohio State's 2024 roster, along with South Carolina transfer safety Keenan Nelson Jr. (Philadelphia).
