Celine Dion struck

The allegations surfaced on October 11, just a day after Celine, 56, released a single from her Olympic performance, Hymne à l'amour – Live from the Olympic Games Paris 2024, on streaming platforms. The song was made famous by the French singer Édith Piaf.

According to NYpost, the daily newspaper Libération claimed in an article headlined, “Did Celine Dion lip sync during the Olympics opening ceremony?”

The media quoted several music industry professionals who claimed her performance was pre-recorded “without a shadow of a doubt.”

“What we heard on television was a corrected rendition,” claimed composer and performer Etienne Guéreau to Libération.

“It was 100% playback, you can hear it from the first notes,” claimed a sound engineer who wished to remain anonymous.

Mixed reaction from fans

The report has angered fans of the My Heart Will Go On singer. “You don't have more important information to repeat?” asked one supporter on X, formerly known as Twitter. “What kind of need is this to tarnish, to denigrate? We don't care! They will not take away the emotions we felt in that moment. “Celine Dion’s vocal performance is still admirable,” wrote another.

“We don’t care about your controversies! Congratulations to Celine Dion for her achievement!” someone else wrote.

Others said they wouldn't care if it turned out the Grammy winner's performance was pre-recorded. “Who cares – she was amazing either way,” one fan commented.

Another pointed to Céline's recent health problems, writing: “She's sick. Let their lips be in sync.” The singer has yet to respond to the claims.

About the performance

Back in July, singer Céline Dion made a powerful return to the stage at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris despite her problems with stiff person syndrome. After a three-year break due to serious health problems, she performed at the opening ceremony of the Olympics and left the audience speechless.

At the performance, Céline was at the forefront of the Eiffel Tour in Paris, singing Hymne A L'Amour by Edith Piaf. Her performance was the final act of the opening ceremony. For her appearance, she wore an exquisite, high-necked, crystal-encrusted gown with long sleeves embroidered with a cape and beaded tassels.

During the performance, the singer could be seen holding back tears. It was her first appearance after giving up her Las Vegas residency in 2021 to focus on her health. Multiple reports suggest that the singer was paid a whopping $2 million for her appearance. However, an Olympics representative said: “Contrary to some media reports, performers will not receive any compensation for their appearance at the 2024 Paris Games ceremonies.”
