At halftime, the Washington Commanders trail the Baltimore Ravens 17-10

BALTIMORE – Week 6 of the 2024 NFL season will see two Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks meet. Reigning MVP, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson hosted rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels and the Washington Commanders.

The Commanders' defense started on the field as Jackson and the Ravens made their first attempt to set the tone in what many expected to be a shootout.

After talking all week about how to stop Baltimore running back Derrick Henry and Jackson, the Washington defense came away with its first interception of the year after that first drive – and it was also cornerback Mike Sainristil's first realization of his career.

The return started Daniels and the Commanders' offense at the Ravens' 49-yard line, and a 25-yard pass to running back Austin Ekeler took the ball to the 16-yard line. Unfortunately, a three-yard sack followed shortly after, setting the team up for a 42-yard field goal attempt by kicker Austin Seibert.

Seibert's 13th field goal of the season – and one in a row – gave Washington an early 3-0 lead.

However, the Ravens were able to get the three points back and we reached the end of the first quarter tied at one field goal apiece.

And there the score stayed until Baltimore took the field for its fourth drive of the game. At the end of that nine-play drive, the Ravens took a touchdown lead over the Commanders after Henry ran the ball in from three yards out. That scoring drive was aided in part by three consecutive explosive plays by the Washington defense and a defensive pass interference on cornerback Benjamin St-Juste on third down. That flag led to the first down, on which Henry subsequently scored.

When the Commanders got the ball back, Daniels immediately went to work trying to get those points back, and offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury reached deep into his pocket to help his unit. On a 1st-and-10 from the Ravens' 43-yard line, Washington chose a flea-flickering screen pass to Ekeler that not only worked, but also gained 25 yards to the Baltimore 18-yard line.

Three snaps later, Daniels hit receiver Terry McLaurin from seven yards out in the back right corner of the end zone for his first touchdown of the day, tying the score at 10 for both sides.

However, immediately following that score, Baltimore managed a 10-play, 83-yard drive to regain the touchdown lead with 53 seconds left before halftime. That result left Washington with a decision to either play aggressively and try to score points before halftime, or take the conservative route and take the one-point deficit into the locker room.

With one timeout remaining, Commanders coach Dan Quinn opted for a goal late in the half. By putting the ball within range of a 52-yard field goal attempt, Seibert Washington attempted to cut the lead to under a touchdown. However, the kick was blocked by the Ravens, resulting in Seibert's first missed shot since joining the team and a 17-10 lead for Baltimore at halftime.

At the start of the second half, Washington receives the ball.
