NASCAR: Kyle Larson wins at Roval while Logano, Cindric, Suarez and Briscoe are eliminated from playoffs

Kyle Larson earned an easy victory at the Charlotte Roval as Joey Logano, Austin Cindric, Daniel Suarez and Chase Briscoe were eliminated from the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs.

Larson led the final 33 laps and beat Christopher Bell to the finish line. The final caution of the 109-lap race came on lap 80 for debris, as the only drama in the closing stages occurred when Tyler Reddick fought his way through the field on fresh tires, knocking Logano out of the playoffs.

Larson led 62 laps as he was clearly the driver to beat. It is the second Roval victory of his career, as he won the race in 2021 ahead of his first (and so far only) Cup Series title.

William Byron was third ahead of Cindric and Chase Elliott. The eight drivers advancing to the third round of the Cup Series playoffs are Larson, Bell, Byron, Elliott, Ryan Blaney, Reddick, Denny Hamlin and Alex Bowman.

Bell ended up being the only driver within range of Larson. He finished about 1.5 seconds behind, while Byron finished almost nine seconds behind.

After the race, Larson reflected that he would miss his 8:40 p.m. flight to Cabo San Lucas because of a vacation before the semifinal round begins Oct. 20 in Las Vegas.

Logano finished eighth, but had to stop in the closing stages as Reddick charged through the field to advance. Reddick had to pit early in the race to repair a broken rear track control arm after his car jumped a curb behind a traffic jam in front of him in Turn 7.

Reddick came into the pits for tires during the final caution of the race and it paid off. He overtook numerous cars and confidently made it to the third lap.

Briscoe suffered mechanical problems and retired from the race early. He went into the race needing a win to advance. Suarez was 20 points short of the semi-final before Sunday's race and was struggling with braking problems. He finished 31st.

Cindric ran well all day but never got close to the lead. Like Briscoe, he needed a win and just wasn't fast enough to get it.
