Chiefs acquire elite wide receiver from Bitter Rival in latest proposed blockbuster trade

Chiefs acquire elite wide receiver from Bitter Rival in latest proposed blockbuster trade

The Kansas City Chiefs are 5-0 heading into the bye week. The Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings are the two remaining undefeated teams in the NFL.

The fact that Kansas City is 5-0 is remarkable considering all the injuries they have already dealt with. They lost Isiah Pacheco, Marquise Brown and Rashee Rice.

Brown and Rice are expected to miss the rest of the season, increasing pressure on Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid to sort things out.

The Chiefs will be linked to multiple pass catchers on the trading block. And in a proposed trade, Kansas City will receive a star receiver from one of its biggest league rivals.

In an article written by Jeff Diamond of the 33rd team, he has the Chiefs trading for WR Tee Higgins from the Cincinnati Bengals.

He made some good points regarding Higgins and the Bengals. They are 1-4 and could look to get some draft capital in exchange for him. Additionally, Higgins is on the franchise tag with a value of $21.8 million. If the Bengals don't start winning, Higgins could be on the move.

“If they don't put together a winning streak over the next few weeks, I can imagine the team opting to trade Higgins at the trade deadline as long as they get a higher pick than a compensatory pick would yield in 2025.”

Jeff Diamond

A compensatory pick would be a late third-rounder at best for the Bengals, so they would likely look for a second-rounder in exchange for Higgins. According to OvertheCap, the Chiefs only have $4.1 million in cap space available, so they would have to make some moves to adjust Higgins' salary. But teams always find a way to move money when necessary.

GM Brett Veach would have to work hard to make it happen, but bringing a player like Higgins into the fold would be huge, especially coming from a rival.

The Chiefs would improve their roster while the Bengals would quit in 2024 by moving on from Higgins.

The Clemson product is a reliable playmaker due to his 6-foot-3 frame and confident hands at the catch point. In his career, Higgins had 275 receptions for 3,866 receiving yards and 26 touchdowns.

He would immediately take over the WR1 role and help offset the losses at wideout. The Chiefs and Bengals have bad blood on the field, but that doesn't mean they couldn't benefit each other in a potential trade.
