And that's exactly how Sarah Jessica Parker took us into the future with her latest red carpet look.

A New Yorker through and through, Parker – just like her Sex and the city Character, Carrie Bradshaw – loves a Big Apple event, even if it's just an excuse to dress up. And on Wednesday night, the actress certainly made a statement when she attended the New York City Ballet's Fall Fashion Gala wearing a shimmering floral dress by Oscar de la Renta.

The space-age design featured a strapless, poncho-like top that looked like a piece of aluminum foil cut and folded into chrome flowers.

Things went a little more ethereal at the skirt, with layers of creamy white tulle that gave the impression that Parker was being carried on a cloud. The sheer fabric on the skirt was decorated with the same floral motif as the bodice, but the silver leaf petals appeared more like swirling swirls, giving the overall ensemble a hypnotic effect.

SJP maintained the metallic color scheme with her accessories, which consisted of a glittery clutch, strappy sandals, a pendant necklace, climber earrings, and a set of diamond bangles. Even her eyeshadow was a glittery silver.

If you haven't followed Parker's style over the years, you probably still know that one of her most iconic looks is the tutu skirt she wears in the intro Sex and the city. Over the years, the Emmy-nominated actress has incorporated tulle into her looks, perhaps as a nod to her figure, or perhaps simply because she loves it. What better place to wear the fabric than ballet?
