Jim Harbaugh Chargers Broncos Week 6 Game Recap

The Chargers got back into the win column in convincing fashion with a 23-16 victory over the Broncos on Sunday.

The Bolts went 3-2 this season with a two-game losing streak.

Here are five takeaways from Week 6:

The Bolts ultimately flew home from Denver with a win.

The Chargers jumped on the Broncos early Sunday but were able to hold on late into the night, picking up their first win at Mile High since 2018. The Bolts had lost 10 of the last 11 games in Denver.

For players who have been here for a few years, they know how special this win is.

“Gigantic. This is my first win here,” said Rashawn Slater. “Unbelievable, it just feels good to go home to your division opponent and beat them there, especially at altitude.”

“If you're a lineman, that's what you worry about, you're fat, the height,” Slater added. “It’s okay, we won.”

The win was also Justin Herbert's first road win against the Broncos.

“Yes, we talked about it,” Herbert said. “It’s been a while since the Chargers won here.

“We knew it was a tough place and a great atmosphere, so we're just happy to come away with a win,” Herbert added.

Derwin James Jr. hadn't won here since his rookie season.

“Wow, wow. “That’s great,” James said. “You all know division games plus two count. We haven't won here since 2018, that's a long time ago. It’s definitely good to get a win.”

Even Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh, who traveled to Denver when he played for the Bolts, agreed with the win.

“Great and glorious win for the team,” Harbaugh said. “Really proud of our team.”

He later added: “Our boys fought until the end. It’s difficult to get a win.”

The Bolts were successful from the start when Elijah Molden intercepted Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix on Denver's first possession.

The Chargers kicked a field goal and Denver promptly hit a three-pointer before Justin Herbert hit rookie Kimani Vidal for a 38-yard touchdown pass and an early 10-0 lead.

The Chargers, who eventually built a 23-0 lead, held on late and won by a touchdown.

“Huge,” Molden said of the big lead in the first half. “Even in the end we won by seven points. We need all these points.”

The Bolts are now 2-1 in AFC West play and have advanced to the second game of the division.

Next up is a road game against the Cardinals in Week 7 Monday Night Football.
