ESPN's Tedy Bruschi destroys Woody Johnson's Robert Saleh's shot

A former Patriots star has called out Jets owner Woody Johnson for firing Robert Saleh five weeks into the 2024 NFL season.

Tedy Bruschi, a three-time Super Bowl champion and NFL analyst for ESPN, said on “Sunday NFL Countdown” that Saleh didn't deserve to lose his job and blamed Johnson for the Jets' perception.

“Aaron (Rodgers) said, ‘We’re winning, we’re great. “We're losing, we're the same old Jets. “Well, ownership decisions like that make you the same old Jets,” Bruschi said. “(Saleh) is not a bad coach. He is a coach who I believe learned on the job. He was a coach who dealt with a young quarterback in Zach Wilson, got them through, and then Aaron Rodgers popped his Achilles to get them through, and now, this week, he's been fired.

“In my opinion it was a knee-jerk reaction. I don't think he should have been (fired)… He was trying to do things as a head coach. He wanted to demote Nathaniel Hackett, take away his management, which ironically is exactly what Aaron Rodgers wanted him to do: take responsibility. Remember the cadence quote, and then maybe you need to hold someone accountable? Now, let’s hold the offensive coordinator accountable.”

Bruschi was referring to when Saleh said after the Jets' loss to the Broncos in Week 4 that the team needed to figure out if it was “good enough or ready to handle the full cadence” after a series of pre-snap penalties , which some plugged as a coach who may want to change the cadence approach.

“That’s one way to do it,” Rodgers said that day after Saleh spoke. “The other way is to hold them accountable.”

Both Saleh and Rodgers later downplayed any issues regarding cadence, and Rodgers said Wednesday on “The Pat McAfee Show” that he “takes offense” to the allegations that he had something to do with Saleh's firing, calling them “obvious incorrect”.

Hackett, with whom Rodgers has been close since their time together in Green Bay, should no longer be with the Jets after being stripped of offensive lineman duties given to Todd Downing, according to Bruschi.

“You have to go because you distract the offensive players,” Bruschi said. “It's a mess. Get rid of Hackett.”

Bruschi also delivered a message to host Mike Greenberg, a well-known Jets fan, who believes Saleh was a bad coach.

“I think you had your man because Finallybecause instead of 'Aaron Rodgers,' he wanted to flip those quotes around to the middle finger,” Bruschi said. “Like, 'I don't care who you are, I don't care if you're Aaron Rodgers.' This is my team, I take it back.'”
