Who plays on Monday Night Football? Week 6 matchup breakdown

Who plays on Monday Night Football? Week 6 matchup breakdown

The Monday Night Football doubleheader will return to ESPN and its family of networks in Week 7, but we have one game in Week 6: a massive AFC East matchup between the Buffalo Bills and New York Jets.

NFL fans got to watch the reigning Super Bowl champions last Monday night as the Chiefs defeated the Saints. At the end of Week 6, two AFC teams will meet that are looking to start 2024 and topple the Chiefs. Additionally, ESPN's “ManningCast” will be available on Monday nights for the second consecutive year for those interested in an alternative viewing option.

With Aaron Rodgers and Josh Allen set to be in action on Monday night, it's hard to imagine Week 6's “Monday Night Football” game not living up to the hype.

Here’s everything you need to know about the “MNF” matchup in Week 6.

WHO IS JEFF ULBRICH? New York Jets name DC interim head coach

Who's playing on Monday Night Football tonight?

The Jets (2-3) host the Bills (3-2) in an AFC East matchup between two teams with playoff aspirations. According to BetMGM NFL odds, the Bills enter the game as narrow 2.5-point favorites.

Both teams enter Week 6 with a loss. The Bills started the season strong with three straight wins, but have lost two straight. In Week 5, they suffered a painful 23-20 loss to the Texans. The Bills made several confusing coaching decisions regarding clock management in the fourth quarter that led to the loss.

Buffalo has been outscored 38-6 in the first half by its opponents over the last two weeks.

Odds for next Jets head coach: Lions OC top prospect Ben Johnson

Meanwhile, the Jets sent shockwaves throughout the league when they fired head coach Robert Saleh last Tuesday. New York had a disappointing 2-3 start to the season and owner Woody Johnson decided it was time for a massive organizational change.

The Jets have also lost two games in a row, most recently in London against the Vikings 23-17. The Jets named defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich as interim head coach and relieved Nathaniel Hackett of offensive playcalling. Ulbrich named Todd Downing as the new offensive lineman, but Hackett remains on staff.

Downing has 22 years of NFL coaching experience, including stints as offensive coordinator for the Raiders (2017) and Titans (2021-22).

Both teams will be looking to get back in the win column on Monday night. The Bills have never lost three games in a row with Allen at quarterback. During his tough two-game stretch, Allen was without his most reliable receiving option, Khalil Shakir. After throwing a career-high 18 interceptions last season, Allen has yet to throw an interception in 2024, which marks the longest stretch of his career without interceptions, but he will face the Jets' second-best overall pass defense the management of Sauce Gardner.

With a win on Monday night, the Jets can move level with Buffalo and secure first place in the AFC East. They will need a better performance from Rodgers, who is coming off a game with three interceptions. The Jets will look to get Breece Hall and a running game that ranks last in the league. Garrett Wilson will look to continue the momentum from his career-best 13 receptions in London.
