Harrison Ford will see you now

Harrison Ford will see you now

Harrison Ford, legendary actor and Zero Fools sufferer, star of Indiana Jones And star Wars and a million glorious conspiracy thrillers of the 90s, is now, improbably, starring in a TV comedy.

In the Apple TV+ series Shrinkage, Alongside Jason Segel and Jessica Williams, the 82-year-old plays Paul, the owner of a therapy practice. Paul's gruff and matter-of-fact style doesn't seem that far removed from Ford, or at least from his public persona – droll one-liners included.

Before shrinkage With the second season premiering October 16, Ford spoke GQ about how close he feels to Paul, whether he misses those thrillers and that one matching picture you have saved on your phone. (You know this one.)

GQ: Shrinking is your first foray into full-fledged comedy. It is also one of your few television roles. What attracted you to it anyway?

Harrison Ford: It's not my first comedy. I mean, I've done a lot of comedies. It may be my first television appearance, but I've done a lot of things that were considered comedies.

Yes, that's right. I assume it was billed as your first straight comedy.

Well, yes, and that's not true either.

It's sad!

Yeah, so let's see what else we can debunk while we're at it. Yes, no – the series is indeed a mix of comedy and drama that is quite unusual and striking for its bravery.

Why did you want to sign up for this?

The success of writing. It seems difficult, but it was done with grace and charm, and I thought it was successful when I read the script Brett Goldstein gave me. And it was something that immediately attracted me because of its success in both drama and comedy. It was an unusual figure for me, I thought.

Maybe we can debunk this too: A lot has been said about how your character on the show, Paul, is a lot like you, or at least similar to your public persona. How accurate do you think this is?

Well, as an actor, all you really have is your own experience, your own ability to understand, and you're stuck with yourself. It's the chemistry you brought with you.

I don't have Parkinson's disease. There are many elements and details of Paul's life that are different from mine, but I think he is a cartoon character. The humor is written for me – there's no way I'm making this crap up. But I borrowed my face and my head. So if it looks like me, it must be me.
