Rex Ryan excoriates the Dallas Cowboys staff for their role in “ass-whipping” the Detroit Lions

The Dallas Cowboys suffered their third disappointing home loss of the season this Sunday when the Detroit Lions visited AT&T Stadium. The lopsided 47-9 loss left many wondering what was wrong in the Big D.

As usual, the Cowboys started the season with high expectations, but they weren't quite met as they entered the bye week 3-3. But in this particular game, former NFL head coach and current analyst RexRyan predicted this result for Dallas in its duel with Detroit.

“I knew going into this game it was going to be a tough one, I said that the day before,” Rex Ryan said Monday morning Stand up. “And I’m like, are you kidding me? This will be the biggest coaching mismatch of the year. Ben Johnsonthe Detroit Lions offensive coordinator, against it Mike Zimmerthe defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys.”

“Dan-O, it would be like playing chess against Bobby Fisher. Well, it’s not going to end well,” Ryan added in a conversation with fellow analyst Dan Orlovsky. “So they knew it was going to be a mismatch in every way.”

The Lions dominated Dallas on the field in every way possible. Not allowing the Cowboys to score a single touchdown while finding a way to score on every one of their offensive possessions except the final two of the game. Ryan believes Dallas has lost both on the field and schematically on the sidelines.

“By the way, Greeny, they never stung,” Ryan told host Mike Greenberg. “Detroit never fumbled in this game like you think, maybe you should get a high school coach to go in there and maybe force a punt like that's a joke. “They come out with a plan. Yes, they are not as physical as Detroit. This was a given, but you will get out of it any way you can.”

Not only was Johnson successful in leading Detroit's offense to success, he even felt the need to throw a variety of passes to the offensive linemen while coming up big on Sunday in Dallas. Trying to make the Cowboys' loss worse through several tricks.

“They did exactly what they wanted to do and for me that’s coaching too and it’s not just about the players. Coaches need to start looking back, like, 'Hey, it's not OK to just cover three weak players, it's not OK to play play-crazy coverage.' Like you have to do something and we've seen it,” Ryan explained.

The Cowboys are missing key players on defense Micah Parsons out and DeMarcus LawrenceBut Ryan doesn't think their absence is an excuse for the way Dallas played and coached better on Sunday. They will try to get healthy and fix their mistakes during the off week before visiting the San Francisco 49ers on October 27th.
