What's the latest update on Detroit Lions DL Aidan Hutchinson's injury?

What's the latest update on Detroit Lions DL Aidan Hutchinson's injury?

Which player could the Lions look forward to in Hutchinson's absence?

Most would start by looking at the names on the sidelines where Hutchinson plays, but another player to consider is defensive tackle Alim McNeill. The fourth-year defenseman had a great game on Sunday with two sacks and seven total pressures from inside.

Campbell said McNeill took it personally that he didn't play his best game against Seattle in Week 4 and emerged as a man on a mission against Dallas. With Hutchinson out of the game for the foreseeable future, the Lions will need performances like McNeill's on Sunday.

“That’s what we expect from Mac every week,” Campbell said. “He is one of those we will rely on. It doesn’t necessarily have to be Superman, but we need to get that out of him every week and he has that ability.”

Could the Lions look to fill the void left by Hutchinson outside the organization?

Lions general manager Brad Holmes is always looking for ways to improve the roster both in the offseason and during the season, according to Campbell.

“Is there anyone out there who could possibly help us? What will it cost? Things like that will always come up,” he said. “Just because it exists doesn’t mean we will.”

According to Campbell, it has to be right. He said they are in no rush to add external staff at this time. He believes in the players who are here now and will be tasked with filling the void, especially along the defensive line.

“That doesn’t mean we don’t look and don’t evaluate,” he said. “This is Brad. That's his job and he's good at it. And we'll take it as it comes. But our eyes are open and we will make sure we have what we need here.”

Campbell and Holmes don't panic and the team doesn't panic. It's the next man up until he deems it necessary to add something from outside the organization.

“I know AG is going to come up with a heck of a plan like he does every week and he's going to use everything he's got and the resources we've got and we're going to be ready to go,” Campbell said. “If we get someone, great. If not, those are our guys and the coaches know that.”
