FSU releases depth chart for matchup against Duke

Florida State (1-5, 1-4 ACC) will face the Duke Blue Devils (3-1, 2-0 ACC) this Friday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. east of Wallace Wade Stadium in Durham, NC.

FSU has never lost to Duke, but enters the game as a 3-point underdog.

Before the matchup, Florida State released its projected depth chart, which shows further steps towards a youth movement on offense.

Hykeem Williams is now listed as the lone starter at WR, Elijah Moore is listed as co-backup, followed by Kentron Poitier. In addition to Malik Benson and Jalen Brown, Lawyne McCoy is now joined as a co-starter with the OR designation.

Tight end is also called by three names, including Landen Thomas.

Andre Otto and Jaylen Early are your starters, with TJ Ferguson, Keiondre Jones and Bryson Estes each being the reserves.

No major changes on defense, although DJ Lundy no longer appears on the depth chart after his season-ending injury and Omar Graham and Justin Cryer are listed as co-starters. KJ Kirkland and Shy Brown also changed starting positions.

FSU vs. Duke: Game Notes

• Florida State travels to Durham, North Carolina to face Duke on Friday night, with both teams having an open date. FSU travels to Durham for the first time since 2017, and the teams will meet in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 2011-13 following a 38-20 win by FSU in Tallahassee last season.

• The Seminoles are playing a Friday night contest for the first time since their 45-38 win over Florida on Nov. 25, 2022 in Tallahassee and are 22-14 (.611) all-time on Friday nights.
• Mike Norvell has a career head coaching record of 9-3 (.750) after one opener of the season. Including season openers, non-Saturday games and bowl games, his teams are 27-12 (.692) and have more than seven days to prepare for a game.

• FSU ranks 2nd in the ACC and 20th in the country in red zone defense, holding opponents to a .750 success percentage.

• The Seminoles rank No. 1 in the nation with four blocked kicks this season, all field goals, having blocked one against Cal, one at SMU and two against Clemson. Florida State is one of two teams in the country to have blocked at least one kick in three games against FBS opponents, and its three-game streak with at least one blocked kick is the longest in the nation this season. FSU's 13 blocked kicks under Mike Norvell rank 8th nationally and 3rd among P4 programs since the start of the 2020 season.
• Shyheim Brown blocked a 38-yard field goal against Cal and a 27-yard field goal at SMU and is one of five players tied for first in the country with two blocked kicks this season. Brown, who also blocked the potential game-winning PAT with no time left in Florida State's 24-23 win over LSU at the Superdome in 2022, is the sixth player in program history to make multiple career field goals. • Florida State leads the ACC and ranks 2nd in the country with a net punting average of 46.10 yards per punt. Alex Mastromanno's average of 49.3 yards per punt ranks 1st nationally. Last year, FSU ranked 3rd nationally in net punting.
• Ryan Fitzgerald is one of three kickers in the country with multiple scores from at least 54 yards. He is one of ten kickers with three 50-yard field goals in 2024 and the sixth kicker in FSU history with at least three 50-yard field goals in a single season. He is one of nine kickers who still have perfect field goal attempts this season.
• Florida State recorded 7.0 sacks in the win over Cal, the most in a game since 7.0 in the 2023 ACC Championship Game and the most sacks allowed by the Bears in a game since October 19, 2019 by an ACC team against an FBS opponents this season and posted the fifth-highest single-game sack total nationally in 2024.
• Over the last four games, the Seminoles have combined for 32.0 tackles and 14.0 sacks and three takeaways.
• Nine Florida State players have made their first collegiate start in 2024. Linebacker Blake Nichelson has started each of the last five games, and wide receiver Hykeem Williams has made three straight starts. Defensive back KJ Kirkland has started three of the last four games. Offensive lineman Jaylen Early started three consecutive contests, starting with the Memphis game.
