Joe Buck spears Bill's kicker for a terrible kick

The Kickers have historically had a good start to the 2024 NFL season. In the first few weeks of the season, it seemed like any attempt under 60 yards was anything but a guarantee of entry. But it looks like the kickers are in for a nasty regression to the mean when the Buffalo Bills kick Tyler Bass's attempt on Monday Night Football is some clue.

When he lined up for a routine 40-yard field goal in the first half against the New York Jets, Bass' shot went wild, and quickly.

Joe Buck: Bass. No chance. That was just strange.

Troy Aikman: I don't think the wind had anything to do with it.

ESPN's Monday Night Football Booth was amazed at how crooked the kick became. “No chance. That was just weird,” commented a perplexed Joe Buck.

“I don’t think the wind had anything to do with it,” agreed his partner Troy Aikman.

“I’ve seen better kicks College game day. What the hell was that?” Buck continued as the game went to commercial.

For the uninitiated, Buck is referring to the student kicking competition College game day implemented in recent years. This competition has been on quite a hot streak lately, with students making it two weeks in a row.

Shanks happen to even the best kickers, and Bass' bad day continued with another missed field goal in the third quarter. Unfortunately for the Bills' kicker, Buck's decision was completely correct, which probably makes things a little more painful.
