Forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Invest 94L remained over the central Atlantic and was a well-defined low pressure area that was producing precipitation and thunderstorms.

The NHC said Invest 94L remains in a dry air environment and the system remains unlikely to develop in the next day or two. However, the system is expected to move further west into an environment more favorable for development and a tropical depression could form as it approaches or approaches the Leeward Islands and into the Caribbean Sea advances.

If you're planning to travel to popular warm-weather destinations like Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands, you'll want to keep an eye on the weather forecast.

The NHC said the chance of the system developing over the next two days is low and the chance of it developing over the next week is medium.

Area to watch in the Caribbean bringing rain to Central America

This graphic shows the latest developments in an area of unsettled weather in the western Caribbean Sea.
(FOX Weather)

The NHC said a widespread low pressure area could develop over the western Caribbean Sea off the coast of Central America by mid to late this week.

If the system remains over warm water and moves slowly west-northwest toward northern Central America, gradual development is possible.

The NHC said that regardless of developments, locally heavy rain was possible in parts of Central America later this week. The likelihood of the system evolving in the next week is slim.
