Timberwolves' Anthony Edwards raves about former Knick Donte DiVincenzo

Anthony Edwards hasn't played with Julius Randle since the blockbuster trade that brought Karl-Anthony Towns to New York, but the All-Star guard is already a member of the Minnesota chapter of the Donte DiVincenzo fan club.

“Damn, unbelievable,” Edwards said after the Timberwolves’ preseason loss to the Knicks upon DiVincenzo’s return to the Garden on Sunday. “I mean, I don’t even need the ball, man. You see, I'm having fun. Donte is fun to play with.

“I haven't even been able to play with Julius yet. So we'll see what that looks like. But playing with Donte is… I’m not going to lie, it’s fun as hell.”

Edwards said he didn't see DiVincenzo talking around with Knicks assistant coach Rick Brunson after the game, but his new teammate's competitiveness doesn't surprise him.

“Hell yeah, he’s motivated every night he plays,” Edwards said. “Even when I played against him, that bastard broke through the screens and when he goes downhill, he goes downhill. He is aggressive in everything he does.

“So you can’t be mad at him, man. He does everything. He makes the right plays. F-King kicks the coverage off the ball. I mean, I know New York is going to miss him.”

The Knicks are averaging 114.3 points per game in their 3-0 start to the preseason heading into Tuesday's home game against the Hornets.

But with several new rotation players, Towns and Mikal Bridges, in the starting lineup, they are shooting just 30.6 percent (38 of 124) from 3-point range.

“Obviously our defense is probably a little bit ahead of our offense right now,” Tom Thibodeau said. “We have to keep working on that, but I think it's important to understand that you have to win games in many different ways.

“If we don't shoot well, we have to change it with our defense, our rebounding, ball control, etc. But obviously there is still a lot of room for improvement for us.”

Towns (4-18) and Bridges (2-9) are each shooting .222 from distance in three games.

“I think there’s a lot more we can do, but I think we’re just trying to figure it out,” Bridges said. “We got KAT right before training camp, so I'm just trying to figure it out. It will take some time to find out more.”
